Tel Aviv receives fifth German-built submarine

Israel received the fifth German-built submarine, which is capable of carrying nuclear warheads, yesterday.

Israeli radio said a welcoming ceremony was held in the Israeli navy base in Haifa.

The submarine departed from Kiel port in Germany in mid-December.

Israel received the fourth German submarine in September at a cost of about €600 million. The agreement was for Israel to receive six Dolphin-class submarines.

The newly-delivered submarine can launch missiles and can stay underwater for a period of two weeks. They can also evade tracing by monitoring devices.
