Iran calls on Americans to invest in the country

Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani yesterday called on Americans to invest in his country, saying “there aren’t any obstacles in front of them”.

Rouhani made his remarks during a press conference held in the Iranian capital, Tehran, following the lifting of international sanctions.

The president pointed out that a priority will be given to countries that continued to trade with Iran despite the economic sanctions.

“We have proved that we can cooperate with the world for the benefit of our people without harming anyone’s interests, and we all witnessed the success of the mutual interest policy,” he said.

Rouhani stressed that his government will not allow the monopoly of economic gains by a particular category, and will support the private sector.

The United States is scheduled to release $100 billion in frozen assets held in international banks and will lift a ban imposed on companies and countries to conduct business with the Islamic Republic.

Iran is expected to pump 500,000 barrels of petrol a day to world markets after the lifting of the sanctions; leading experts to expect oil prices to fall further.

The International Atomic Energy Agency announced in a statement on Saturday that Iran has complied with its obligations in accordance with the nuclear agreement signed in July last year.

Economic sanctions imposed on Iran because of its support for terrorism and violations of human rights will remain in place.
