Yemeni activists yesterday started a Twitter campaign to highlight the issue of those kidnapped by the Houthis, the Anadolu Agency reported.

Activist Latifa Ali, coordinator of the campaign, said activists used the hashtag #ReleaseDetainees in order to highlight the plight of the hundreds of prisoners held in Houthi jails to the world.

In a statement, Ali said: “Throughout this campaign, we want to ensure the tragedy of the Yemenis kidnapped by the Houthis is the main issue before the start of any UN-sponsored discussion between the Yemeni government and the Houthis.”

Yemenis around the world are taking part in the campaign, using a different number of global languages in order to get the message across to a large audience.

A list for the names of the 2,044 kidnapped Yemenis was released as part of the campaign, of whom 743 are being held in unknown locations.
