The Cairo Criminal Court yesterday issued an order to freeze the assets of former Interior Minister Habib Al-Adly and twelve security officials who served during the rule of ousted President Hosni Mubarak and placed travel bans on them.

The same court also dropped charges against 90 brigades, police officers and employees in the same case after reaching a “reconciliation agreement” with a judicial commission.

The investigation in to the Interior Ministry Corruption Case began in 2012.

At the time, investigative Judge Mohamed Abdel-Rahman prevented Al-Adly and more than 100 security officers from travelling “pending investigation” for periods ranging from six months to a year.

The defendants were accused of seizing more than two billion Egyptian pounds ($260 million), during Al-Adly’s mandate as interior minister.

Al-Adly is accused of abusing his position in office, paying incentives to unknown persons. His defence team accused the court of having no legal grounds.
