Egypt’s Police Academy has expelled 40 students for allegedly belonging to the Muslim Brotherhood, the academy’s head said Monday.

“The 40 students were expelled for having political affiliations and belonging to the Brotherhood group,” Omar al-Asr told a press conference.

He said the Police Academy students are subject to supervision “to make sure that they have no political affiliations.”

In late 2014, Egyptian authorities expelled a number of police cadets on claims of having links to the Muslim Brotherhood.

Since the 2013 military coup against President Mohamed Morsi, the Muslim Brotherhood has been the subject of a relentless crackdown by Egyptian security forces.
