Egyptian Prime Minister Sherif Ismail held an emergency meeting with Interior Minister Magdy Abdel Ghaffar today to discuss the killing of a civilian by a police officer in Cairo.
Media sources said the interior ministry officially apologised to the victim’s father.

On Thursday, Mohammed Adel Ismail, a 24-year-old taxi driver, was shot and killed by a police officer near the Cairo Security Directorate in Al-Darb Al-Ahmar in Cairo.
The Egyptian Interior Ministry announced early today that Abdul Ghaffar received Mohammed’s father and brothers and expressed his sincere condolences and regret for this tragic incident.
The minister promised the ministry would make sure that those responsible for the murder would be held accountable.
On Friday, Egyptian President Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi instructed the minister curb police violence.
The officer in this case has been referred to the criminal court on charges of attempted murder.
