Former Nidaa Tounes MPs establish new party

Tunisian MPs who resigned from the Nidaa Tounes party last year yesterday announced the establishment of their new part, the Tunisia Project.

Party members, led by former Secretary-General of Nidaa Tounes Mohsen Marzouk, said the new political group was formed following extended national consultations held across the country in February, explaining that the party will work to improve the economic situation in the country.

In a press conference, MP Walid Jallad said the new party holds 25 seats in parliament.

The 25 MPs who joined the party resigned from Nidaa Tounes at the end of last year after accusing the Tunisian president and party leader, Beji Essebsi, of preparing his son to lead the party. Essebsi denied the claims.
