Teachers in the West Bank took industrial action at the start of February calling for raising their salaries, paying accumulated debts and administrative privileges.
Speaking to Quds Press, a number of teachers said: “The Palestinian Authority (PA) security services attempted to prevent organised peaceful protests in Ramallah by setting up a number of checkpoints and confiscating people’s IDs.”
During the protest, the teachers called for the government to meet their demands, insisting they would not return to work until their conditions were met.
They accused the government of “degrading” them as no officials had addressed them. Instead, the government has been exerting efforts to undermine the strike, including arresting senior Fatah MP Najat Abu-Baker following her support for the teachers.
