Iraqi PM: Opposition objects to cabinet reshuffle fearing loss of privileges

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi said that some leaders of the political blocs in Iraq oppose ministerial changes, fearing they will lose their privileges.

“We will proceed with reforms… Some object to the cabinet reshuffle because they will lose their privileges,” a statement issued by Al-Abadi’s office quoted him as saying during a meeting with members of the Iraqi parliament yesterday.

The Iraqi prime minister stressed that “the conflict between the political blocs will not build the state” adding that Iraq suffers from economic and financial challenges that need continuous work, reforms and plans, and “this is what we are working on”.

He pointed out that the reshuffle is part of the government’s reforms which include the economic and administrative sectors and the fight against corruption.
