Erekat: Israel has carried out 207 extrajudicial executions of Palestinians since September 2013

The Israeli army has carried out 207 extrajudicial executions against Palestinians since 13 September 2015, senior Palestinian official Saeb Erekat said.

In a statement issued yesterday after a meeting with the United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Nikolay Mladenov, Erekat asked the UN to begin an official investigation into the “extrajudicial killings” carried out by the Israeli army.

Erekat, who is the secretary-general of the Palestinian Liberation Organisation’s Executive Committee, said that although the Israeli government had announced that it would open an investigation into the “brutal executions” carried out against Abdel Fattah Al-Sharif in the city of Hebron on Thursday, “historic facts” demonstrate that Israeli investigations do not “serve justice”.

A video published by the Israeli Information Centre for Human Rights in the Occupied Territories, B’Tselem showed an Israeli soldier shooting the already wounded Al-Sharif from a close range, killing him on the spot.
