Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu must “meet the demands of the Palestinian resistance” in order to make progress in the case of the Israeli soldier who went missing during “Operation Protective Edge”, Quds Press reported a senior Hamas official saying.

Responding to remarks made by Netanyahu in which he said a breakthrough had been made regarding the issue of the soldier, senior Hamas leader Ziad Al-Zaza said: “The aim of these remarks is to reassure his soldiers,” noting that this is not the right way to speak politics.

Hamas sources have previously revealed that there are external mediations being carried out to see whether a prisoner swap is possible with Israel.

The sources reiterated that Hamas has placed conditions on the release of all Israeli soldier, including the release of all prisoners who had been previously released during the Shalit prisoner swap.

Netanyahu had claimed that he was personally following up efforts being exerted through “secret channels” to release the soldier.

“There are excessive efforts being conducted and I was briefed about the issue just two days ago, not more,” Netanyahu said, “but it is difficult to achieve any progress in this regard except away from the light… This is the prime issue among others taken secretly.”
