Israel rejects ‘involvement’ of Palestinian doctor in Sharif’s autopsy

Israel’s Supreme Court rejected a petition requesting the “involvement” of a Palestinian doctor in the autopsy of Abdel Fattah Al-Sharif, who was killed by an Israeli shoulder on 24 March in Hebron, the Palestinian Prisoners Club said yesterday.

In a statement released, the association said that the Israeli Magistrates’ Court had approved the request that a Palestinian doctor be present in the room during the autopsy.

Occupation forces executed 21-year-old Al-Sharif while he lay injured on the floor after he was shot by an Israeli soldier following a stabbing attack.

The Palestinian Prisoners Club said the Magistrates’ Court’s decision guarantees the Palestinian doctor’s right to express his comments regarding the autopsy and document the comments in the final report. The autopsy is set to take place on Sunday.

The Israeli Supreme Court said the Palestinian side could request Al-Sharif’s body immediately after the completion of the autopsy.

If the military commander refuses to hand over the body, the lawyer will be able to submit another petition to the Supreme Court, the Palestinian Prisoners Club explained.
