Air France resumes flights to Tehran after 8 years

The French airline carrier Air France resumed its flights to Tehran on Sunday after an eight year hiatus caused by the economic sanctions imposed on Iran due to its nuclear programme.

Anadolu Agency’s correspondent said that France’s Transport Minister Alain Vidalies and the heads of the country’s 15 largest companies are on board the flight.

Commenting on the issue of Iran obliging female flight attendants to wear the headscarf in the country’s airports, Air France said in a press statement released Sunday that it “will not compel flight attendants to do anything and will not impose any sanctions on them in the event that they do not want to wear it [the veil].”

The French company had asked its flight attendants to wear the veil alongside long pants and long sleeved shirts outside the plane in Tehran. But after negotiations with French trade unions, Air France offered their attendants to choose other flights and avoid flights to Iran if they do not want to wear the veil.

Sunday’s flight came after sanctions that had been imposed on Iran were lifted in line with the nuclear deal that Tehran signed with the P5+1 countries in mid-June 2015.
