Algeria employs 900,000 guards, jamming devices to prevent cheating in exams

The Algerian Ministry of Education intends to employ 900,000 guards and advanced jamming devices in the ministry’s examination centres to supervise high school exams and prevent students from cheating.

In an interview last week, Minister of Education Nouria Bin Gabrit said students would not be able to leak questions because of jamming devices.

The ministry’s strict procedures come on the backdrop of last year’s scandal when students taking exams photographed the questions with their smart phones and posted them on social networking sites asking for help to solve them.

District inspector, Abdul Razzaq Sawwas, said the ministry will also impose extreme penalties on cheaters including banning them from retaking the exam for three years.
