Ghannouchi: ‘I am not afraid about the democratic transition in Tunisia’

The leader of Tunisia’s Ennahda movement, Sheikh Rachid Ghannouchi said there is no fear for the unity and cohesion of the ruling quartet or the democratic transition in the country.

“The ruling coalition parties will meet on Thursday at the Afek Tounes party headquarters to discuss cooperation between the coalition components,” Ghannouchi told Quds Press.

He pointed out that the meeting between his movement and the Nidaa Tounes party earlier this week aimed to strengthen coordination between them in order to support the government.

Ghannouchi also defended the country’s democratic transition experience saying: “I am not afraid about the democratic transition experience in Tunisia. The latest opinion polls show that more than 80 per cent of Tunisians are committed to the democratic option and are proud of the democratic experience in Tunisia, despite the economic difficulties and protests against the government’s performance.”
