Sudan to protest US decision to deny Sudanese minister visa for UN meeting

The Sudanese foreign ministry has said it will formally protest before the United Nations against the United States’ decision to deny Interior Minister Esmat Abdel-Rahman Zein al-Abdin an entry visa to participate in a UN meeting in New York.

Ambassador Abdul Ghani Al-Naeim, the ministry’s undersecretary, told a Sudanese newspaper on Sunday that the US government is granting entry visas to participate in UN activities in New York selectively, adding that this is a clear violation of the UN host country’s regulations to facilitate the organisation’s mission.

The ambassador said his country received an official invitation to participate in the conference organized by the UN on the global issue of drugs and that the interior minister was supposed to lead the Sudanese delegation attending the conference.
