EU may offer small loans to Syrian refugees in Turkey

EU Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn said he had discussed with Turkish officials the possibility of offering small loans to Syrian refugees, and whoever wants to establish his own business in the region.

Speaking yesterday during a visit to the Harran camp for Syrian refugees in southern Turkey, Hahn said that the loans would help refugees establish their own businesses.

He stressed the importance of teaching Syrian refugees Turkish to help them integrate into society.

The commissioner hailed Turkey’s efforts to host the refugees, noting that the EU will continue to support Ankara, especially financially.

The Harran camp hosts 13,930 Syrian refugees.
