Palestinian security services in Gaza revealed that they dismantled a cell which aimed to create chaos in the enclave by assassinating individuals and bombing the houses of Fatah leaders, Arab48.com reported.
Sources told the news site on Wednesday that the cell was funded by dismissed Fatah leader Mohamed Dahlan, who is living currently in Dubai.
They said the cell aimed to carry out the attacks and then have a fake organisation by the name Wilayat Gaza claim responsibility for them. The name is similar to the name of the terrorist group active in Sinai, which announced its allegiance to Daesh.
The sources said that the cell was dismantled after the wife of a Fatah leader in Gaza, Marwa Al-Masri, was arrested at the Erez crossing, when she was heading to the West Bank to meet the former Security Commander in the West Bank Tawfiq Al-Tirawi, to get funds from him.
Palestinian factions mediated to release Al-Masri because she is a woman, but all the other members of the cell are still being held in prison.
Al-Masri will be prosecuted along with the other members of the cell in a military court in Gaza.
A number of senior Fatah leaders were to be targeted, including Jamal Kayid, Ahmed Naser and Mamoun Swidan.
In addition, the sources told Arab48.com that the cell planned to produce and publish fake videos claiming to be from members of Wilayat Gaza or Daesh in Gaza, threatening to attack Egypt from Gaza, as well as threatening Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.
Hamas has sent details of the case to Abbas for action to be taken against Al-Tirawi, who is responsible for previous attempts to destabilise the Strip and cause security chaos.
