Media advisor to the Iraqi Defence Ministry and spokesman, Nasir Nouri Mohammad Al-Tamimi revealed that talks are underway with Russia, to purchase more Kornet anti- tank missiles.

Talking to Russian Sputnik News Agency yesterday, Al-Tamimi said that Iraq has received a patch of these missiles from Russia according to a contract between the two countries earlier, noting that more missiles will be delivered in the future.

Nouri explained that Iraq needs the missiles to use them in the battle against al-Islamic state, after they have proved effective and helped the Iraqi security forces progress.

The Kornet is Russian anti-tank guided missiles, intended to be used against main battle tanks.
