A court in Dubai has sentenced an American businessman to 15 years in prison on charges of theft and fraud, local media reported yesterday.

Khaleej Times reported that the Dubai Criminal Court sentenced former CEO of Deyaar Development, Zack Shahin, 51, to 15 years in prison for theft and fraud valued at more than 56 million dirhams ($15.2 million) in relation to a land deal in 2007.

Three other Americans received similar sentences in absentia.

Shahin was arrested in 2008 and charged with embezzlement. He fled to Yemen after being granted bail but was arrested there and extradited to the UAE.
