France confirms close contact with Egypt and Arab League over peace process

French Foreign Ministry Spokesman Romain Nadal said on Monday that France is in close contact with all partners, especially Egypt and the Arab League, in preparation for a scheduled visit from Ambassador Pierre Vimont, the special envoy to the peace summit initiative to Cairo, later on Wednesday.

In response to a question by MENA news agency, Nadal said that Ambassador Vimont will hold consultations with the Egyptian authorities and the Arab League Secretary General Dr. Nabil Al-Arabi about the initiative’s next stages in the wake of the Paris meeting, which was held on 3 June.

Representatives from 26 countries, including Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Morocco and other major powers, attended the Paris meeting in efforts to revive the peace process.

The attendees have issued a statement emphasizing their support for a lasting, just and comprehensive solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Paris is seeking to hold an international conference with the participation of the Palestinian and Israeli sides before the end of the year.
