Syrians have deposited some 1.2 billion Turkish liras or nearly $350 million in Turkish banks, the official Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency said on Tuesday.

In 2012, assets of Syrians in Turkish banks totaled 311,258,000 Turkish liras. In 2014, the assets reached 733,875,000 Turkish liras. By 2015, this figure reached 1,201,987,000 Turkish liras, according to data from the official banking agency reported by Anadolu.

President of the National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces Khaled Khoja said in remarks to the news agency that Syrians are investing in Turkey through partnerships with Turkish citizens or alone.

Anadolu Agency‘s Financial Analyst Eslam Memis said rich Syrians have converted considerable amounts of their cash to US dollars following the loss in value of the Syrian lira.

“Rich Syrians have converted their cash money to dollar and invested in either real estate or the food sector. You can see restaurants and kiosks with Arabic name plates everywhere in Turkey,” he added.
