Egyptian court rules against transfer of Red Sea islands to Saudi

An Egyptian court ruled on Tuesday to annul a maritime borders agreement between Cairo and Riyadh.

Egypt and Saudi Arabia signed the agreement in April under which the Egyptian government agreed to hand over control of two Red Sea islands to Saudi Arabia.

The agreement sparked large protests across the country.

Activists welcomed the ruling and called on the Egyptian authorities to release all activists arrested for demonstrating against the agreement.

The government will appeal the ruling before the country’s Supreme Administrative Court.
