The Syrian opposition has rejected the UN’s suggestion that three of President Bashar Al-Assad’s deputies should be appointed to run the country’s security, financial and military establishments in order to resolve the crisis, a senior official said.

“This Iranian proposal was rejected,” the head of the Syrian opposition’s High Negotiations Committee, Asaad Al-Zoabi, tweeted. He added that any settlement that allows for Al-Assad to remain in power is a violation of the Geneva I resolution.
