As many as 175,000 people have lost their jobs in the farming sector this year due to the severe drought which has led to a four per cent decline in the sector’s operating capacity, the Moroccan planning authority said.
In a report released on Friday the authority said 21,000 jobs had been lost in urban areas while a further 154,000 had been lost in rural regions which operate in the farming, forestry and fishing sectors.
Agriculture accounts for 14 per cent of the country’s domestic output and is the source of income for about 75 per cent of people in rural areas.
