Hamas denies detention of Fatah members

The Palestinian interior ministry in Gaza yesterday denied claims it had detained Fatah members and supporters across the Strip, Quds Press reported.

In a press release, department spokesperson Iyad Al-Bozom said: “Everything that Fatah announced regarding the detention of its members in Gaza is baseless.”

He pointed out that his ministry, which is under Hamas’ control, has recently charged and prosecuted four Palestinians for disturbing the peace in February last year, adding that no regard was paid to their political background.

Al-Bozom expressed his “surprise” at Fatah’s statement. He stressed that such “false” statements “harm” the elections and cause chaos among Palestinians.
