Al-Azhar condemns Israeli violations against Al-Aqsa Mosque

The official Egyptian religious institution Al-Azhar condemned the continuous Israeli violations against Al-Aqsa Mosque on Wednesday, warning of the repercussions if they did not stop, Quds Press reported.

In a statement, Al-Azhar criticised the new Israeli excavation plan beneath Al-Aqsa Mosque and the erasing of Islamic identity in the holy city of Jerusalem.

Al-Azhar called for the Arab League, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, international bodies and human rights organisations to take “strict” measures to curb the “repeated” and “flagrant” violations.

Early this week, London-based Al-Hayat newspaper reported an Israeli TV channel saying that a number of organisations have already started to prepare for the demolition of Al-Aqsa Mosque in order to build a Jewish temple.
