Palestinian-Israeli meeting in Cairo soon

Peace talks between Palestinians and Israelis are due to be held in Cairo, Palestinian Authority (PA) General Consul in Alexandria Hussam Al-Dabbas said yesterday.

Speaking to Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper, Al-Dabbas stressed that the meeting would not replace the French initiative.

He said that the expected meeting in Cairo aimed to prepare for the international Paris conference, noting that Israel is exerting efforts to cancel it.

On Friday, Israeli general radio reported that PA leader Mahmoud Abbas had asked France, Russia and Switzerland to attend the meeting in Cairo.

Al-Dabbas hailed Russian President Vladimir Putin for saying he’d host Palestinian-Israeli talks in Moscow.
