Saudi envoy demands Iraqi government respond to death threat

Saudi ambassador to Iraq Thamer Sabhan has demanded the Iraqi government announce its official position following a threat against him by a pro-government militia leader.

“I am waiting for the Iraqi government’s statement regarding remarks by one of its components. Does it agree with him?” he asked in a Twitter post.

On Tuesday, the leader of Abu Al-Fadl Al-Abbas Forces Aws al-Khafaji said that the Popular Mobilisation Forces described Shaban’s assassination as “an honour” to any militia.

The militia is working as part of the Iraqi government’s security forces.
