Hamas complains about PA violations against its candidates

Hamas filed an official complaint against the Palestinian Authority (PA) over its use of intimidation against opposition candidates in the upcoming elections, the Safa news agency reported yesterday.

In a statement Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri said the violations included “threatening, interrogations, arrests, opening fire at the candidates, planting explosive devices and storming the houses of the candidates.”

Abu Zuhri he added that this is parallel to Israel’s actions which put pressure on Hamas candidates, threatening and arresting them.

He also noted that his movement had submitted a copy of this complaint to human rights organisations and other factions.

Local elections are expected to take place on 8 October.
