Egyptian weightlifter Amany Ibrahim wins bronze in Rio

Egyptian Paralympian weightlifter Amany Ibrahim has won bronze in the 69kg category at the 2016 Rio Olympic games, pushing up Egypt’s total of weightlifting medals to six. This is Ibrahim’s first medal and Egypt’s seventh this year.

Two-time defending champion of the men’s 56kg category Sherif Othman won gold in this year’s men’s 59kg category. Rehab Ahmed won silver in the women’s 50kg and Fatma Omar won silver in the women’s 61kg. Shaaban Ibrahim and Amal Mahmoud won bronze in the men’s 65kg and the women’s 67kg respectively whilst Mostafa Mohamed won silver in the men’s 100 metres. Egypt is currently third in the 2016 summer Paralympics powerlifting medal table.

Over the years Egypt has won a total of 165 medals at the Paralympics games.
