UAE restricts import of Egyptian strawberries

The United Arab Emirates tightened measures relating to importing frozen Egyptian strawberries following news that consumers in the US were infected with hepatitis after eating the fruit, Almesryoon.com reported yesterday.

In a statement, the ministry of environment and climate change said that it had started testing the imported Egyptian products to ensure their safety.

It added that it had also contacted the American Food and Drug Administration to get more information about the news report that scores of Americans were infected by hepatitis after eating frozen Egyptian strawberries.

The statement was issued activists criticised the UAE’s import measures related to Egyptian products.
