Al-Aqsa guard jailed for 11 months

An Israeli magistrate’s court has jailed a guard from Al-Aqsa Mosque for 11 months.

Fadi Ali Mohammed Aliyan, 30, was also ordered to pay a fine of 1,500 shekels ($400) after he was found guilty of standing in the way of Jewish settlers who had stormed the mosque.

Aliyan was arrested on 28 June from within the mosque’s courtyards; he was moved between a number of prisons and is now being held in Gilboa.

Jewish settlers regularly storm Al-Aqsa mosque and its courtyards to complete religious rituals. There have been increased calls from members of the Knesset and rabbis for such visits to increase and for the area to be annexed, all of which Muslims condemn and denounce.
