The Jordanian government yesterday signed an agreement to import gas from Israel, a statement by the country’s national power company revealed.
Jordan’s National Electric Power Company Ltd (NEPCO), which represents the government, signed the agreement with the Mediterranean basin-developing company, Noble Energy,
According to a statement issued by NEPCO, under the terms of the agreement, Jordan with receive 40 per cent of its electricity-generating needs.
According to NEPCO statement, the deal will enhance regional cooperation and allow Jordan to utilise gas field discoveries in the Mediterranean to build a gas network with lines to export gas from these discoveries and link them to Europe.
Noble Energy owns 39 per cent of the Leviathan natural gas field in Israel.
