Twenty-four Kuwaitis are being held in the US after being charged with storing illegal material on their mobile phones and tablets, Kuwaiti newspaper Al Rai reported.

The group included students and tourists, some of whom have been detained for over a month. Pictures were discovered on the Kuwaitis’ phones which included pictures of violence, extremism and paedophilic material including “immoral” photos of children.

Kuwait’s embassy in Washington has called on its citizens to ensure their electronic devices are free of such material and stressed the need to adhere to the laws of the countries they are in.
