Inmate found dead in Egyptian police jail toilet

An inmate of the police jail in the city of Tanta in Egypt’s Al-Gharbiyah Governorate has been found dead in a toilet, Almesryoon.com reported on Friday. The prisoner was identified as Sameh Ahmed, who was serving a one-month sentence.

As soon as Ahmed’s family heard the news of his death they gathered outside the jail at the local police station, but were dispersed by security officers. His body was taken to the mortuary at Al-Minshawi Public Hospital where an autopsy will be conducted to establish the cause of death.

Family members waiting outside the hospital accuse the police of torturing Ahmed.
