Pakistan is due to deport teachers working in schools which are affiliated with the Gulen movement ahead of a visit by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan which begins tomorrow.

Erdogan is arriving on a two-day state visit and will address a joint session of parliament.

According to interior ministry sources, the government has ordered all Turkish residents affiliated with Pak-Turk to leave Pakistan by 20 November. Immigration officials have also received orders to this regard.

The sources said that currently there are 23 Pak-Turk International Schools and Colleges in Pakistan, where 108 Turkish citizens are working as teachers and in other capacities. A total of 400 people will be affected by the decision.

In August, Ankara asked Pakistan to close down institutions run by Fethullah Gulen, the US-based religious leader accused of masterminding and backing the botched coup attempt in Turkey.

Gulen runs a network of schools and forums in addition to having business stakes.
