Libyan army expects to retake Benghazi within hours

The Libyan army expects to retake the city of Benghazi from Daesh in the next few hours, an army spokesperson said.

“The Libyan army is ending fighting in the city of Benghazi. The areas of Al-Kawarsha and Qunfudah will be fully liberated in the next few hours,” the head of the press service of the Libyan National Army Khalifa Al-Obeidi told Russia’s Sputnik news agency yesterday.

Al-Obeidi also said the Libyan army was able to control the Tripoli-Benghazi road.

Daesh had planted mines in several areas which delayed freeing the two regions, especially Qunfudah, he explained.

The group now only control a small area of the city, Al-Obeidi added.
