National Association of Tunisian Lawyers began a strike today in all courts across the country in protest against the 2017 budget, Quds Press reported.
In a statement, the union said that the strike could remain open, depending on the developments of the situation with the government. The union also called for the lawyers to stage a protest in front of the parliament in Tunis.
The union said it was surprised when the government approved the budget for 2017 in October, noting that the budget included “dangerous measures and laid much burden on the shoulder of the citizens and mainly the lawyers.”
In the statement, the union said that these measures and burdens “could result in disastrous consequences threatening the lawyers’ work, as well as social stability in the country,” stressing on its absolute rejection of the budget which is awaiting a parliamentary vote.
