At least 25 people were killed and 31 others injured in an explosion near the main Coptic cathedral in the Egyptian capital Cairo on Sunday, the state television said.

The blast happened outside the Coptic Orthodox Church in central Cairo early Sunday.

Earlier, the Health Ministry said five people had been killed and 10 others injured in the blast.

Ambulances and civil defence teams were seen moving to the site of the explosion.

There was no claim of responsibility for the explosion.

Sunday’s explosion comes two days after six policemen were killed in a bomb blast in the Egyptian capital on Friday.
