More than 103,000 people have been displaced since the start of the military campaign to restore the city of Mosul from Daesh, the Iraqi Ministry of Displacement and Migration revealed today.
In a statement, Minister Jassim Al-Jaff said that about 2,470 more civilians had fled their homes in northern Iraq today.
“This takes the total number of displaced people to 103,362 since the operation began,” he said.
Meanwhile, the head of an Iraqi government commission tasked with repatriating displaced persons, Abu Bakr Al-Kanaan, told the Anadolu Agency that some 15,000 people have already returned to their homes in areas south of Mosul.
“And another 10,000 will return to their homes in the area soon,” Al-Kanaan said.
Earlier in October, the Iraqi army began a military campaign with support from the international coalition led by the United States to retake areas controlled by the Islamic state militant group.
