Houthis accuse UK of war crimes

In an interview with Sky News the Prime Minister of Yemen’s Houthi cabinet has blasted the UK for committing war crimes in Yemen.

Abdulaziz Bin Habtour criticised the British Government for prioritising the profits being made from arms sales to Saudi Arabia above holding off airstrikes.

“They have sold cluster bombs to Saudi Arabia… they know the Saudis are going to drop them on Yemen … in Sa’adah and in Sana’a and other provinces,” he told Sky News in his office in Yemen’s capital city Sana’a.

When he was asked if he thinks the UK is guilty of war crimes, he said: “I don’t think they are guilty of war crimes, I believe so. They are participating in the bombing of Yemen people.”

The Houthis, who have themselves been accused of war crimes and recruiting child soldiers, took control of Yemen’s capital city in a coup in September 2014.

Yemen has been locked in a bitter battle between Houthi rebels allied with forces loyal to ousted President Ali Abdullah Saleh against government forces led by President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, along with local tribes and resistance forces backed by a Saudi Arabia-led coalition.
