Algeria condemns US travel advisory

The Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has rejected the US’ “distorted claim” that its citizens should not travel to large parts of the North African country.

“The US travel advisory does not reflect the reality of Algeria’s security situation,” the ministry stressed in a statement today.

“The security of Algeria is permanently stable thanks to the policy of national reconciliation advocated by President Abdelaziz Bouteflika and the high price paid to eliminate terrorism,” the statement added.

On Tuesday the State Department warned US citizens against travel to remote areas in southern and eastern Algeria, as well as isolated parts of the Kabylie region, due to a high threat of terrorist attacks and kidnapping.
