The Palestinian Ministry of Information held its first meeting to implement an Arab League resolution designating Jerusalem the capital of the Arab media for 2016/2017, Ma’an News Agency reported on Wednesday.

Participants in the meeting discussed how to establish and deepen Palestinian partnerships with the Arab media in order to bring Jerusalem to the top of its priorities and present it and its problems to the regional and international audiences.

At the end of the meeting, a committee to follow up the implementation of the Arab League decision was formed and was tasked to start conducting the necessary contacts with the relevant parties.

The meeting decided four goals for the plan: achieve a sustainable presentation of Jerusalem in the Arabic and international mass media; present Jerusalem to different audiences through a Palestinian perspective; provide relevant data for mass media; seek popular involvement by the media with issues about Jerusalem.

On 25 May, the Arab League’s Council of the Arab Information Ministers announced that Jerusalem would be the capital of the Arab media in 2016/2017.

The Preparation Committee for this resolution held its first meeting on the issue on 12 July in the headquarters of the Arab League. Several Palestinian institutions took part in the meeting.
