Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that certain politicians and media figures are applying pressure to have him indicted “at any price,” Israeli media reported yesterday.
The remarks came just hours after he was investigated by the police for the third time over two corruption cases named Case 1,000, which involves illegally receiving gifts, and Case 2,000 which involves a bargain between him and the owner of Yedioth Ahronoth, Arnon Mozes.
One day prior to Netanyahu’s latest interrogation, Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported Netanyahu criticising the Israeli media and certain Israeli politicians, claiming they are putting pressure on the Israeli Attorney General Avichai Mendelblit and law enforcement officials in an attempt to oust him from government.
“The cat’s out of the bag,” Netanyahu wrote on his Facebook, Haaretz said. He claimed that media figures and politicians were making an “undemocratic attempt” to have him indicted “at any price”.
During Wednesday’s prime minister’s questions at the Knesset, he described such efforts as “persecution”. Addressing the sitting MKs, Netanyahu said: “I have news for you. I will continue to lead the State of Israel for many more years to come for the citizens of Israel, the State of Israel and the Jewish people.”
After the third investigation, Israeli police came to the conclusion that there is sufficient evidence that Netanyahu had committed at least some of the crimes of which he is suspected, Haaretz said.
