Iran to US: We won’t start war, but will defend ourselves

Responding to the latest tweets of US President Donald Trump about his country, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said yesterday that his country would not start a war, but would defend itself.

On his official Twitter account, Zarif wrote: “Iran unmoved by threats as we derive security from our people.”

He added in another tweet: “We will never initiate war, but we can only rely on our own means of defence.”

The top Iranian official also tweeted: “We will never use our weapons against anyone, except in self-defence. Let us see if any of those who complain can make the same statement.”

On Thursday, Trump tweeted: “Iran has been formally PUT ON NOTICE for firing a ballistic missile. Should have been thankful for the terrible deal the US made with them!”

A couple of hours later, he also tweeted: “Iran is playing with fire – they don’t appreciate how ‘kind’ President Obama was to them. Not me!”

Trump also claimed that Iran was almost ready to collapse, but the nuclear deal saved it: “Iran was on its last legs and ready to collapse until the US came along and gave it a life-line in the form of the Iran Deal: $150 billion,” he tweeted.
