The meeting between Turkey, Russia and Iran in the Kazakh capital Astana has ended, with participants agreeing that more time is needed to monitor the implementation of the ceasefire in Syria.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov emphasised that his country presented what looked like a draft constitution for Syria as a proposal rather than a “compulsory” document.

He also noted that Moscow welcomes the extension of the Syrian opposition’s participation in both the Astana and Geneva negotiations.

Lavrov commented on Iran’s position on the Syria crisis, saying that Iran had nothing to do with Daesh or Jabhat Al-Nusra, and it takes part in the fight against Daesh through the armed groups that it supports in Syria.
