Abbas criticises Egypt’s decision to host Dahlan conference

Palestinian Authority (PA) President and Fatah Chairman Mahmoud Abbas has rebuked Egypt for allowing his rival, Mohamed Dahlan, to hold a conference in the country, Quds Net reported yesterday.

According to Palestinian sources close to Abbas, the head of the PA sent a message to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi expressing his “discontent” that the conference was to be held in Cairo.

Dahlan was dismissed from Fatah over differences with Abbas and his sons and he has been living in the UAE.

Last week, Egypt hosted a conference for Dahlan and his supporters who travelled to Cairo from the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.

In an interview with Al-Ghad TV last week, Dahlan describes Abbas as a “dictator” and “thief”. He however stressed that Fatah, whether led by Abbas or any other leader, is the best choice for Palestinians to achieve their goals.
