Palestinian factions in Ein Al-Hilwa refugee camp in Lebanon have agreed a ceasefire after violent clashes led to the death of one refugee, wounded many others and destroyed a large part of the camp, Al-Resalah newspaper reported on Wednesday.
“The Palestinian factions agreed on an immediate ceasefire when they met in the Palestinian embassy in Beirut on Tuesday,” announced the Secretary of the PLO factions, Fathi Abu Al-Aradat. He stressed that the factions agreed to form a leadership committee to follow up the developments in Ein Al-Hilwa and work to maintain the ceasefire.

The PLO official explained that the Palestinian factions inside the refugee camp committed to the agreement from the first minute that it was announced. The camp, he said, is currently very quiet.
Ein Al-Hilwa is the largest refugee camp in Lebanon and is located in the coastal city of Sidon. It hosts about 80,000 Palestinian refugees. There are 12 UN-registered Palestinian refugee camps across the country in which at least 450,000 people are living, along with many unregistered refugee “gatherings”.
