Sudan to host intelligence agencies for mercenary and terrorist talks

A Sudanese security official announced on Wednesday that his country will host a workshop for the Intelligence and Security Services of Africa (CISSA) from 3 to 5 April. The representatives of agencies from almost 30 countries are expected to attend the meeting, at which the issues of mercenaries and terrorism will be on the agenda.

“The Commissioner of African Peace and Security will attend the workshop and the recommendations will be submitted to the African Union,” Major General Tariq Choukri told journalists in Khartoum. “Sudan will present a paper on mercenary operations and their impact, especially the Darfur movements fighting in Libya and southern Sudan.”

The CISSA noted the need to see “the expulsion of foreign fighters from the city of Sirte in Libya.” Its statement pointed out that according to some reports a large number of extremist groups have moved towards the Sahel and Sahara. CISSA added that some of these vast areas will “remain completely open” to the members of such groups. “A new faction calling itself the Islamic State in the Sahara has claimed its presence in the state of Burkina Faso,” the intelligence umbrella body warned.
